Handy Car Caddy: Baby basics!

Something I've learned through trail and error with little Olive is that she ALWAYS needs a nappy change when we are "just popping to the shops" or "running out for a coffee." Now while we are in a global pandemic and this might not be so handy for quite some time, I wanted to share it anyway! I actually got the original idea when Olive was a newborn and I needed lots of equipment with me at all times to feed her, even at home. So I made up a little kit of sorts and put it all in a little portable caddy! As she grew I didn't need it in the house any more so refilled it with handy things to keep in the car! This might have been obvious to many mums, but to me it was a revelation! It's honestly one of the most handy things I have and so cheep and easy to put together!

I started off with a simple nappy kit, so I didn't have to bring a big nappy bag to the car every time I was doing a short trip. So I included a nappy cove, insert, liner and some dry flannel wipes. I figured if I needed to wipe her butt I could pour a little water on the wipe, that way it wouldn't get all mouldy sitting in the car in a plastic bag if I didn't use it strait away.

Then I realised I could just make up a whole kit for all of those "just incase" times!

This is what I included:

  • A plastic bowl and spoon and knife. For when we are on the run and she wants some fruit or yoghurt.
  • Two bibs.
  • hand sanitiser.
  • an empty bottle- We don't use them for milk, but I included it because she does enjoy drinking water from them.
  • A rolled up baby blanket.
  • A little hat.
  • a couple of bandaids.
  • Some hair ties for me.
  • tissues.
  • pacifier.
  • small toy.
  • Some hand moisturiser and lip balm.
  • The nappy kit!
If you're interested, this is what I had in the newborn kit that I toted around the house.

  • Nipple shields.
  • nipple balm.
  • hand sanitiser
  • breast pump.
  • clean bottle.
  • linen flannels.
  • Breast pads.
  • hydrogel breast discs.
  • pads.
  • pacifier.
  • baby wipes.
  • spare baby hat.
I keep it all in a felt "box basket" someone gave me at the baby shower. It is a handy shape because it's big and wide so you can see everything inside, lots of pockets and it has a handle on the middle divider.

Every now and then I take it out of the car and unpack it to make sure I have everything I need, and of course if I use a nappy I put a new one back in!

I hope someone finds this handy!
Here we are at a friends house, before we weren't allowed to see other people! This was one of those times the nappy caddy came in handy!
